Uses & Applications

Sika MonoTop®-620 can be applied with or without a reinforcement mat, over concrete or mortar surfaces or over SikaTop® or Sika MonoTop® mortars. Ideal for:

• Thick-layer concrete repairs, especially overhead and vertical applications (columns, beams, slab soffits)
• Concrete/mortar pore sealing and levelling
• Thin layer render over vertical or horizontal structural elements
• Repairing minor defects such as pores and honeycombed concrete
• Restoration of edges and joints
• Reprofiling spalled or damaged concrete before painting or coating

How to Use Sika MonoTop®-620

Step 1 — Surface Preparation:
The concrete must be thoroughly clean, free from dust, loose material, and surface contamination. Delaminated, weak, damaged and deteriorated concrete must be removed by suitable means. For exposed rebar, remove rust, scale, mortar, and loose material using abrasive blast cleaning or high pressure water-blasting to Sa 2 (ISO 8501-1).

Step 2 — Pre-Wetting:
Thoroughly pre-wet the prepared substrate approximately 2 hours before application. Keep the surface wet and do not allow it to dry. Before applying, remove excess water with a clean sponge — the surface should have a dark matt appearance without glistening, and pores should not contain standing water.

Step 3 — Mixing:
Pour 4.5–5.0 litres of clean water into a mixing container. While stirring slowly, add the 25 kg powder and mix thoroughly for at least 3 minutes using a low-speed (<500 rpm) drill mixer until a smooth, lump-free consistency is achieved. Never exceed the recommended water dosage.

Step 4 — Application:
Apply manually using traditional techniques or mechanically using wet spray equipment. When applying by hand, first make a scratch coat by firmly scraping the mortar over the substrate to fill any pores or pits, then build up the repair. Finish with a wooden or plastic float or damp sponge. Apply in layers of 1.5–5 mm. A bonding primer is generally not required on a well prepared, roughened substrate.

Step 5 — Curing:
Protect the fresh mortar immediately from premature drying using a moist geotextile membrane or polythene sheet. Cure for a minimum of 3 days.

Cleaning: Clean all tools and equipment with water immediately after use — hardened material can only be removed mechanically.

Important Precautions

• Avoid application in direct sun and/or strong wind
• Do not add water above the recommended dosage
• Apply only to sound, prepared substrates
• Do not add extra water during surface finishing — this causes discolouration and cracking
