Dealing with water gushing or seeping through a wall, floor, tank, or basement — even under pressure? SikaTop®-590 Seal (Sika 590 Seal), available at Shabbiri Hardware, Magadi Road, Ongata Rongai and Tuala (past Nazarene University), is the emergency solution trusted by contractors, plumbers, and fundis across Kenya.
When mixed with clean water only, SikaTop®-590 Seal forms an ultra rapid setting plugging mortar that sets in just 2–4 minutes and expands as it cures, locking itself into cracks, holes, and joints to form a permanent watertight seal — even where water is actively flowing and ordinary cement mortar would simply wash away. Formerly sold under the name MSeal 590, it is chloride-free, does not corrode steel reinforcement, and cures to strength characteristics similar to concrete itself.

Key Advantages
Where to Use SikaTop®-590 Seal
How to Use SikaTop®-590 Seal (Application Guide)Step 1 – Prepare the Crack or Hole Cut the crack or hole to a minimum of 20mm × 20mm width and depth, with the sides as square as possible — undercut where you can, and never leave a V-shape or feather edge. For anchoring bolts, drill the hole deep enough for the bolt with at least 10 mm clearance all round. Flush out all dust and loose particles with clean water, and dampen all surfaces immediately before applying. Step 2 – Mix (Small Batches Only!) Mix the powder by hand with clean water at approximately 0.24 litres per kg to a stiff consistency. Mix quickly — pot life is only 1–2 minutes, so mix only what you can place in one go. Never re-temper (re-wet) material that has started to harden. Step 3 – Plug the Leak Hold the mixed mortar in a gloved hand until you feel slight warmth or initial setting begin. Then press it firmly into the opening with full pressure and hold — without moving — for at least 1 minute. For large openings, work progressively from the sides toward the middle with successive mixes. Once the water is stopped, trim the patch flush with the wall. Step 4 – Floor/Wall Junction Sealing (Coving) For sealing the joint between floor and wall, force the mortar into the prepared groove and shape a 45° cove/fillet approximately 35–45 mm at the junction using a round-nosed tool. Step 5 – Anchoring Bolts & Posts Fill the hole completely with mortar, tamp it down, then immediately centre the bolt or post and force it into the mortar. Tamp firmly around it — the anchor is set within minutes.
Step 6 – Cure Final set occurs in 2–4 minutes. Once stiffened, dampen the repair with clean water and keep it damp for at least 15 minutes. Clean tools with water immediately — hardened material can only be removed mechanically. FAQ section Q: What is Sika 590 Seal used for? A: SikaTop-590 Seal is an ultra rapid setting mortar used to instantly stop active water leaks through cracks, holes, and joints in concrete and masonry — including basements, water tanks, reservoirs, and sewers. It is also used for rapid anchoring of bolts, railings, and pipes. Q: How fast does Sika 590 Seal set? A: It sets in just 2–4 minutes, with a working (pot) life of only 1–2 minutes. It reaches over 12 MPa compressive strength within 30 minutes. Q: Can Sika 590 Seal stop water that is actively leaking? A: Yes — that is its main purpose. It expands as it sets, forming a permanent watertight seal even against flowing water under pressure, where normal mortar would wash away. Q: How do you mix Sika 590 Seal? A: Mix the grey powder by hand with clean water only, at roughly 0.24 litres of water per kg of powder, to a stiff consistency. Mix only small amounts you can place within 1–2 minutes. Q: What sizes does Sika 590 Seal come in? A: It is available in 5 kg and 25 kg metal pails at both Shabbiri Hardware branches — Magadi Road Ongata Rongai and Tuala past Nazarene University. Q: Is Sika 590 Seal the same as MSeal 590? A: Yes — SikaTop-590 Seal is the new name for the product formerly sold as MSeal 590, following Sika's acquisition of the MBCC/Master Builders range.
