How to Use Akfix EM600 Waterguard (Application Instructions)

Step 1 – Surface preparation. The surface must be sound, clean, dry and free from dust, oil, grease, moss and loose particles. Repair large cracks and holes with a suitable repair mortar. On metal roofs, treat any rust and apply an anti-corrosive primer first.

Step 2 – Priming (porous surfaces). For concrete, screed and other absorbent surfaces, prepare a primer coat by diluting EM600 with water (approx. 1 part membrane to 1–2 parts water; highly porous surfaces may need up to 4–5 parts water) and apply it evenly. Let the primer dry.

Step 3 – First coat. Apply undiluted EM600 in one uniform direction using a brush, roller or airless spray gun.

Step 4 – Second/third coat. After 4–5 hours (once the previous coat is dry to touch), apply the next coat in the opposite (perpendicular) direction. Apply a minimum of 2 coats, building up a total dry film of about 1 mm.

Step 5 – Reinforcement (critical details). On wall-floor junctions, corners, drains, cracks and joints, embed a reinforcement fabric/geotextile into the wet first coat, then cover fully with subsequent coats.

Step 6 – Curing & protection. Protect the fresh membrane from rain, frost and dew for at least 24 hours. The system reaches service condition in about 48 hours.

Important notes:

• Do not apply during rain, when rain is expected within 24 hours, or when there is a risk of frost.
• Not suitable for areas under permanent/pressurized water (e.g. water tanks, pools).
• Not designed for direct pedestrian or vehicle traffic — protect with tiles, screed or a suitable wear layer if the area will be walked on regularly.
• Clean tools with water immediately after use.
