How to Use the RILAND MMA 315-JT (Step-by-Step)

Setup

1. Position the welder on a dry, flat, well-ventilated surface, away from flammable materials.
2. Connect the cables — plug the electrode (holder) lead into the “+” terminal and the earth clamp lead into the “–” terminal for standard DCEP (reverse polarity), which suits most general-purpose electrodes. Reverse for electrodes that specify DCEN.
3. Attach the earth clamp firmly to clean, bare metal on your workpiece or welding table.
4. Insert the electrode (2.5 mm, 3.2 mm or 4.0 mm) into the electrode holder at about a 70–80° angle.
5. Connect to power and switch the machine ON — the digital display lights up.

Setting the Current

• 2.5 mm electrode: roughly 60–100 A — thin sheet, light fabrication.
• 3.2 mm electrode: roughly 100–140 A — general fabrication, gates, grills.
• 4.0 mm electrode: roughly 140–200 A — heavy plate, structural steel.

Turn the front control knob to set the amperage on the digital display to match your electrode size and material thickness.

Welding

5. Chip off the slag with a chipping hammer and brush the weld once cool to inspect it.

• Switch off and unplug the machine; let the cooling fan run down before storage.
• Respect the duty cycle — allow cooling on 4.0 mm heavy work (≥30% duty cycle) to avoid tripping the overheat protection.
• Store in a dry place; keep vents clear of dust for efficient cooling.
